Have you been waiting on God for some answers or intervention in some areas of your life?

In this blog post, I am going to share with you what it means to wait on God in a way that we won’t be wasting God’s or our own time.

What does it mean to wait on God?

Waiting on God simply means relying on and expecting God to express and show his power on our behalf on issues that concern us. This waiting period follows seasons of intense prayers and having done everything we know how to do.

We have heard so many teachings on waiting on God and people are always encouraged to wait on God when they are faced with situations that are beyond their understanding and power to resolve.

Believers are encouraged to keep waiting on God on the basis that certain miracle takes time to happen and also based on the fact that certain things can’t be done by God until he is ready to do it or maybe the time is not ripe.

DOES GOD ENJOY KEEPING US WAITING?

Why would God encourage believers to wait before he performs miracles in their lives, heal their bodies or provide for their needs? This has nothing to do with God ability but the human capacity to receive. God is always ready to meet our needs! But are we always ready to receive?

Believers need to start renewing their minds in this area. Most of the time when we think we are waiting on God, it is not because God is gearing up to bless us or mustering all his power to meet any of our needs; it is because we are not ready. The waiting is necessary for us to get in line and on the same frequency with God to receive what he has for us.

The Character of God is revealed through his instructions and his words.

Proverbs 3: 27-28

27Do not withhold good from the deserving, when it is within your power to act.
28Do not tell your neighbour, “Come backtomorrow— I will provide when you have the means.”

These verses of the scripture reveal an important part of God’s nature:

He doesn’t want us to keep people waiting when they come to us for help and we have the resources to meet the needs. God instructed us against asking people to come back tomorrow when we have the things people are asking from us.

It is not in God’s nature to keep us waiting for the things he is able to do for us today.

God can provide us with good health today!

God can provide financial provision today!

God can heal our body today!

God can give us promotion today!

God can turn that circumstances around today!

God can heal our marriage today!

God can touch the heart of our rebelling children today!

God can deliver from that addiction today!

The question is do we have to wait on God before he does those things he is able to do for us?

Let’s look at other scriptures:

Leviticus 19:13

Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.

Deuteronomy 24:12-15

And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge: …

VS 15: You are to pay his wages each day before sunset, because he is poor and depends on them. Otherwise, he may cry out to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty of sin.

These Old Testament Laws show how God cares about the poor and the needy. He inspired the leaders of Israel to write these laws.

When we read the Old Testament laws the views we have is of some people inside synagogues worshipping God; we don’t realize these are the laws through which the nation of Israel was being governed. This is like our Employment and Labour Law and Payment of Wages Acts today.

God wants people to get what the deserve, particularly when there living depends on it.

Why would the same God keep us waiting forever before he does what we expect from him?

Here is the truth: God himself is waiting for us!

GOD IS WAITING TO BLESS US

Isaiah 30:18

And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

What we don’t hear often is the fact that God waits on us too. God waits for us to mature, develop our faith, follow is last instruction, repent from our sins and so on.

God waits for our maturity to be able to receive the things he has promised us.

Galatians 4:1 (NLT)

“Think of it this way. If a father dies and leaves an inheritance for his young children, those children are not much better off than slaves until they grow up, even though they actually own everything their father had.”

God waits for us to repent!

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness. But He is patient with us, because He does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

While you are waiting on God for that change to happen, remember, God is waiting also on you.

God is a wise husbandman, who ”waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it” (James 5:7).

God is waiting eagerly to bless you and be gracious to you.

Shalom.
